NF-κB Signaling Pathway
NF-κB (Nuclear Factor Kappa B) is a critical transcription factor involved in inflammation, immune responses, cell proliferation, and apoptosis. In its inactive state, NF-κB binds to its inhibitor protein IκB in the cytoplasm. Upon stimulation by external signals (e.g., cytokines, pathogens), IκB is phosphorylated and degraded, releasing NF-κB, which translocates into the nucleus to regulate target gene expression.
AP-1 Signaling Pathway
AP-1 (Activator Protein 1) is a dimeric transcription factor composed of Jun and Fos protein families, playing roles in cell differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. Its activation depends on the MAPK pathway (e.g., ERK, JNK, p38). External signals trigger phosphorylation cascades that activate AP-1, enabling it to enter the nucleus and bind specific DNA sequences to regulate gene expression.
