Chemokine (C-C motif) receptor 7 (CCR7) is a crucial G protein-coupled receptor whose ligands are CCL19 and CCL21. It is primarily expressed on naïve T cells, central memory T cells, and mature dendritic cells. The core function of CCR7 is to guide the migration of these cells from peripheral tissues or the bloodstream into the T-cell zones of secondary lymphoid organs (such as lymph nodes), which is a critical step for immune response initiation and immune surveillance. By mediating the homing of dendritic cells to lymph nodes for antigen presentation and guiding T cells to be activated there, CCR7 plays an indispensable role in initiating adaptive immunity, the development of lymphoid tissues, and lymphocyte homing.
